History

Timeline
Peach Tree Montessori International opened on February 22, 1978, as a day care group home at 1200 Pomona, the family home of its founder, Harriet M. Cobbs.  Because of its rapid growth, Peach Tree moved to 500 Miller in November of that year.

In 1982, the school moved to its present location at 319 North Ashley, expanded its program, and became an independent school that offers a play-based program in the afternoons.

Development
Harriet Cobbs, Peach Tree's Director, has traveled to many states and to Canada to visit and observe infant and toddler programs.  We believe our school has one of the best infant/toddler developmental programs in the Ann Arbor area.

Presentations
During the workshop's early years, our students took part in presentations for the Michigan Association for the Educators of Young Children, displaying their movement and dance training.  Harriet Cobbs has been a workshop presenter for this group and has presented at the family day care conference in Lansing.

Peach Tree has been recognized at other conferences as well, including the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI).

AMS logoMemberships
The school is a member of the American Montessori Society and the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Future Growth
Although Peach Tree is committed to maintaining its current size for the present, we continue to grow and advance in the quality of our work with children and their families.
